India's Parliament reinstated opposition leader Rahul Gandhi as a legislator

 


On September 7, 2022, Rahul Gandhi commenced the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' (Unite India March), a journey that essentially aims to unite India. Under this campaign, he and his team plan to cover a distance of approximately 3,500 kilometers in about five months, traversing 12 states and two union territories to reach Kashmir. The main objective of this march is to revitalize the Congress Party, strengthen its position before the assembly elections in various states and the general elections of 2024. The primary focus of the journey is to unite the nation and bring the people of India together.


After being found guilty of contempt for his remarks against Narendra Modi during the 2019 general election campaign, Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in prison by a court in Surat, Gujarat, on March 23, 2023. The very next day of being found guilty, Rahul Gandhi was declared ineligible for the Lok Sabha (lower house of parliam.
